Successful Competition to Win a Stay Here

The Beast from the East & Rainy Days in Devon

snow; cottages; orchard retreat; devon; self-catering; gleaming

After a delayed start to our season (snow, more snow, rain and well rain) we decided to join up with Sandford Orchards and run an April competition.  A giveaway of a two night stay here at The Orchard Retreat and a case of Sandford Orchards’ Devon Red Cider to launch our glamping 2018 season.

March was an interesting month, it started with snow and ended with rain.  I mean the snow was amazing, who doesn’t love a snow day? There was a flurry of excitement (see what I did there) as the snow fell, with sledging in the meadow and snowball fights galore! Plus fun walks around the village – heading in one direction, our local pub The Ring of Bells.

However, this exciting weather front had a knock on effect to glamping here at The Orchard Retreat.  The ground is really wet and we get splattered with mud on our daily dog walks.  The yurt canvases have been on their yearly trip to the cleaners and the weather halted their speedy return.

Social Media Competition

So with all that in mind we decided to delay the yurts going up until the end of April.  Such a shame to not welcome any Easter glampers but it felt like the right decision.  It wasn’t an easy one to make, with enquires coming in – but sometimes you have to go with your gut. Besides, once we open it will only be a week or so after we opened last year.  Plus, we are hoping for an Indian summer so we can extend our season at the other end. Silver lining!

Once the decision had been made, we ran with it and have prepped everything ready for opening. We couldn’t be more excited about the start of the yurt season and because of this we decided to join forces with Sandford Orchards to kick the season off with a competition.

By asking our Facebook followers to like and comment as to why they would like to come glamping here, we gained some great interest and over 150 wonderful comments. The winner was drawn at random once all entries had been collated.  Announced via Facebook live, our winner and her family will be coming to stay in April and we can’t wait to meet them.  Winning a two night stay and a case of cider went down really well and we were delighted to be able to offer such a fun prize.  We hope they have a wonderful stay!

So there we go, another interesting twist in the running of a business like this, the ups the downs, the competitions, the fun and the wonderful guests.  We love it!
