Spring is in the Air
After the yurt season came to an end in October, we enjoyed a quietish winter (bar some lovely cottage guests) and so have been able to focus on some of our land management jobs and make preparations for the new season to come.
We are in a very different place this year, here at The Orchard Retreat, in comparison to where we were this time last year – knee deep in red Devon mud after the continual downpour that all of the UK experienced – finishing off the build of the Facilities Lodge and the conversion of Apple Tree Cottage. Not to mention installing our beautiful yurts and giving The Gallery a once over.
This winter, having completed all the major works, we have been able to ensure that the grounds and gardens are well tended to and are in the midst of building a cob pizza oven which will be completed in March (watch out for pizza evenings on our website), as well as making plans for our little on-site shop, which will offer a small selection of local goodies.
It’s so exciting to be ever evolving and thinking of new and interesting things for our guests to enjoy to make The Orchard Retreat even more special – well at least we hope they will. We have a few other things up our sleeves, like offering the services of a mobile masseuse who can be pre-booked and will offer our guests a variety of different massages, plus we will be making improvements to our play area during the Spring/Summer.
We have also recently added to our family by rescuing four hens from the British Hen Welfare Trust – they will be free ranging around the place to add a bit of animal sparkle, something we hope our guests will enjoy too and depending on how many our little flock lay, we may even be able to share our free range eggs!
The yurts, which have been stored away for the winter, to keep them in tiptop condition, are ready to make an appearance once again and we can’t wait!
Roll on the end of March where we will be welcoming the winners of our Facebook competition. They won two nights in a yurt on our opening weekend, which will lead us nicely into season 2!
