Summer in Full Swing

Well what a different season we have had this year!

The cost of living and the lure of going abroad has certainly had an impact on guest numbers this season. After much research – I found this to be industry wide. Which has definitely made us feel better – but is not so good for us all who work so hard, to provide a wonderful holiday in the UK. Small businesses are hard…

That said, all of our regular glampers have still flocked to Mid-Devon and enjoyed one last hurrah in the yurts. It has been emotional. We have had questions as to why we are ending, tears and joy for having found us in the first place.  ‘Such a special place’ comes up again and it warms us to know that for ten years, we created a magical site for those who love to stay under canvas.

The holiday cottages have experienced the same dip in numbers, but when people arrive they love it. Leaving with promises to come back and they do. So despite the difficult year, we are still doing something right. We finally listed the cottages on AirBnB – which I have a love hate relationship with 🙂 but it has helped. Which is great.

As we say goodbye to the yurts, we are excitably making plans for the new OR and what that will look like. Our architect has just been out and made plans for the Gallery conversion. We are so excited to see what that entails.  Hoping we can swing it for ready for next Easter. Watch this space!

As for the rest of the summer – we are nicely busy, the guests are loving it. Despite the rain in Mid-Devon – although I think it is the same everywhere. They are certainly making the best of it. Coats on, hoods up, pizza oven in the rain. Love it.  Which by the way, we painted at the start of the season and it looks so cool.

The Tubhouse also had a glow up as the kids say, as all of these love extras will be available for future seasons in the cottages and it looks fab. We even added some extra festoon lighting and it looks so magical at night.

Our lovely local pub here in Cheriton Fitzpaine, The Ring of Bells, is still providing fantastic meals for our guests. Everyone comes back saying how great it is and now, there is even more of a buzz, as the landlady Binka is preparing to welcome her first baby.

I am getting messages from our regulars to find out if she has had it yet. So sweet and shows how much our little site and local amenities mean to those who know us best.  Will it be a boy or a girl – the sweepstake is live and I hope I win. I won’t, I never win anything where I have to guess the answer, but you never know.

There is still some availability through the year, so do book via the booking page and we hope to see some of you soon.
